Climate Action and Resilience planning

Alphington Community Centre has a partnership with both the Darebin neighbourhood houses and the Yarra neighbourhood houses. In 2022 we worked with the Darebin houses on a Climate Action and Resilience Plan that was funded by Darebin Council. And then in 2023 we went through a similar process with the Yarra neighbourhood houses, working in partnership with the staff at Yarra City Council.

Alphington Community Centre is one of 7 neighbourhood houses across Darebin that form the Darebin Neighbourhood House Network. The other houses include:

• Bridge Darebin (Thornbury and Preston)

• Jika Jika Community Centre

• PRACE

• Reservoir Neighbourhood House, and

• SPAN.

In 2021-22 our houses utilised funding from Darebin Council to develop a shared Climate Action and Resilience Plan.

Our plan outlines how we can take action both within our own houses and more broadly with and within our local communities to support actions that improve sustainability and reduce climate change emissions and also help us identify and address the real impacts and then respond thoughtfully and holistically as we adapt to the challenges that climate change poses for us all.
